Last shows for Low Fidelity

"You're not Rob Snarski" said the young boy.

"Yes I am. It's just I've gone and grown a moustache and I'm wearing glasses," I answered.

"No. You're not Rob Snarski" he repeated, convinced I wasn't me, looking deep past my spectacles.

It was an awkward, perplexing moment and this little kid was making me feel a tad anxious.

Maybe I'm not Rob Snarski ... but then again why am I here if I'm not? Standing in the middle of Readings, Carlton, with my guitar slung over my shoulder singing amongst the travel books, whilst everyone else is sampling the free wine and flicking through the CD racks.

After I sang 6 songs or so, trying to convince myself I was someone who actually sings songs every so often, the boy came up to me again.

"Ok you are Rob Snarski. Thanks for singing The Black Caress".

Then he followed with some quick-fire questions ... "What's your favourite song? ... Who's your favourite band? ... Are you your favourite singer?"

Woah, let me have think about that.

He told me he liked Queen ... and Bohemian Rhapsody was his favourite song ever - quite an epic for a lad of ten.

His mother and I were chatting, discussing my acoustic house concerts and then before I knew it everyone else in the shop who'd come to hear some tunes had dispersed and I remained there wondering if I was who I think I am.

Well friends, the final shows for The Low Fidelity tour take place in October just before I head overseas ... and also finish off some recording duties with The Blackeyed Susans.

In Melbourne & Adelaide guitar maestro and charmer Shane O'Mara again shares the stage. I'm in solo mode in Brisbane at the spooky, yet glorious Junk Bar.

Dates and ticket info here ...

FRI OCT 16 Spotted Mallard, Brunswick w/ special guests Alison Ferrier & Jed Rowe

FRI OCT 23 Flying Saucer Club, Elsternwick w/ special guests The Broads

SAT OCT 24 Junk Bar (early & late show) Brisbane

Hopefully see you somewhere ...

WA SHOWS AUG 28 & 29 FREMANTLE/PERTH

So finally, we're heading to WA to launch the new LOW FIDELITY CD.

Looking forward to seeing all my pals in Fremantle and Mt. Lawley. I have fond memories of some pretty enthusiastic foot stomping encores at The Astor last time for the "Wounded Bird" tour so I'm hoping we can provide the same musical moments to garner a similar response for the songs from LOW FIDELITY (SONGS BY REQUEST VOLUME 1 - covering Lou Reed to Pulp, Glen Campbell to Nina Simone, Spiritualized to Lee Hazelwood and much, much more) ... no doubt we'll be playing songs from WOUNDED BIRD too.

The tour has been going very, very well. Recently we've had a sellout show in Adelaide, a cracking show at the Caravan Music Club in Melbourne and a wonderful in-store at Basement Discs CBD with Pat Monaghan MC-ing the event ... so fingers crossed there'll be a few familiar faces at the shows in WA in late August.

My musical partner in crime this time around is guitar maestro Shane O'Mara, he's played with everyone from Paul Kelly to Edwyn Collins, Chris Wilson, The Audreys and to his own Rebecca's Empire and also produced countless recordings ... a lovely chap and a tremendous musician.

Thanks to y'all for coming along to the LOW FIDELITY shows over last weekend in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Note to self - best to have seated venues for people of our vintage - I felt for you all standing there with drink in hand at the Northcote Social Club for what seemed like a rather lengthy show.

Adelaide was a hoot ... thanks to all at The Wheatsheaf, who got to sit and listen through to our two sets.

I have another show in Melbourne this Friday at the glorious Caravan Music Club (fast becoming my favourite venue in the Southern Hemisphere) accompanied again by accomplished guitar guy Shane O'Mara.

It's a slightly earlier gig with our set starting around 9:40pm and Jess Ribiero kicking off about 8:30pm.

Tickets still available here if you're keen ...

Tickets are also now on sale for Fremantle, Perth and Brisbane.

The LOW FIDELITY Tour begins

Well the LOW FIDELITY tour has begun in chilling earnest.

These coming weekend(s) I launch LOW FIDELITY in Melbourne and Adelaide along with maestro guitarist Shane O'Mara.

Saturday JULY 25 - NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB (Melbourne)

Sunday JULY 26 - WHEATSHEAF HOTEL (Adelaide)

Friday JULY 31 - CARAVAN MUSIC CLUB (Oakleigh)

Thanks to all the Sydney folk who came along to The Vanguard... and the lovely people of Tasmania for our warm reception in Hobart and Port Arthur. (I've included some pics of The Big Sing and Bonfire - the pinnacle of The Festival Of Voices on the Friday we performed in Hobart)

In Port Arthur we played on the historical site... chilling in both senses of the word.

If anyone's interested in my early working life read on here...

LOW FIDELITY (Songs By Request Volume 1) CDs Arrived & Album Launches

The Low Fidelity CDs have arrived and are looking and sounding swell even if I do say so myself. It'll be interesting to see what your favourite track will be given it's such a musical mixed bag. Will it be the late, great Fred Neil track 'Dolphins' or Lee Hazlewood's subtlety psychedelic offering 'Come On Home To Me' or one of the classics... 'Witchita Lineman' or 'Wild Is The Wind' ... maybe something more contemporary Pulp or Spiritualized ... time will tell.

You can order the CD directly from here and I'll post it out promptly.

Should be in the shops by Friday also.

Just a little reminder Sydney is only two weeks away with the launch at The Vanguard in Newtown, Friday July 3 with special guests JEP & DEP fresh from their European jaunt.

Tickets available here.

I'm really looking forward to singing these songs live and playing with Shane O'Mara, so hopefully we'll see you about the traps.

Cheers,

Rob x

LOW FIDELITY (Songs By Request Volume 1) about to hit the shelves

A recording made at home primarily on my iPhone... who would've thought I'd like it so much I'd be releasing it? Is this the new recording frontier..?

LOW FIDELITY (Songs By Request Volume 1) is about to hit the shelves and I just want to say a big thanks to all who supported this project. It's been a real joy. The original recordings were taken to Yikesville Studios for embellishment and tweaking, with Shane O'Mara adding guitar bits here and there, a simple EQ and a touch of reverb... it's sounding pretty sweet to these ears. Mastered by Mikey Young too.

From Pulp to Glen Campbell, Spiritualized to Nina Simone, Edwyn Collins to Lou Reed, Joni Mitchell to Chad's Tree... LOW FIDELITY is being manufactured as I write. The tour is in place with master guitarist/producer Shane O'Mara so we'll be visiting a town near you real soon.

You can sample three tracks now. Here's what the track listing looks like too... and the list of people who requested tunes.

If you're keen to pre-order your copy just click here... and I'll pop it in the post as soon as they land... promise.

Here's where the launches take place around the country too... so come along if you're free.

Working on where to play in Brisbane... any suggestions most welcome, though I do love The Junk Bar.

The Vanguard NEWTOWN 3 July
Festival of Voices HOBART 10 July
Festival of Voices PORT ARTHUR 11 July
Northcote Social Club NORTHCOTE 25 July
Wheatsheaf Hotel THEBARTON 26 July (early 5-7pm)
Caravan Music Club OAKLEIGH 31 July
The Odd Fellow FREMANTLE 28 August
Astor Lounge MT LAWLEY 29 August

All ticketing details can be found here.

Happy listening Rx

PS. Btw Edwyn Collins tweeted how much he liked our cover of "Graciously" ... gotta say that made me pretty happy.

Susans & Snarski News

The Blackeyed Susans are heading into the studio to work on an album with Dan Luscombe back on board. Some songs have been staples in the set list for a time but there are some other gems hidden away beneath the surface. Dan has been busy with Courtney Barnett and The Drones so we're looking forward to a few tales and some interesting production ideas.

Meanwhile Rob is about to embark on a tour with producer/guitarist Shane O'Mara. After the successful pledge campaign that brought together 'Wounded Bird' another project beckoned.

'Low Fidelity' is a collection of song requests from fans and friends, recorded on his iphone in the hills of Tecoma and embellished at Yikesville Studio by Shane O'Mara... from Pulp to Lee Hazelwood, Glen Campbell to Spiritualized, Edwyn Collins to Chad's Tree ... it's a musical mixed bag.

Check out July dates on this poster (artwork by Fiona McMonagle).

In the meanwhile Rob heads to Darwin this weekend to play The Railway Club on Sunday May 24 and then heads to Newcastle on Thursday June 4 to perform at Lizotte's.

Cheers y'all...!

Shows coming up ... Brisbane, Upwey, Darwin and Newcastle

Returning to Brisbane to play two shows at Ashgrove's answer to Twin Peaks ... The Junk Bar. Intimate and creepy. Early and late shows on Saturday April 11.

Playing at my local The Burrinja Cafe in Upwey on Saturday May 2. Hopefully my neighbours will come along.

My first trip to Darwin and something I'm really looking forward to. Tell your friends and relatives to pop into The Railway Club on May 24. I'm not sure what to expect except perhaps a rise in temperature.

I haven't played in Newcastle for many moons so look forward to Lizotte's on Thursday June 4.

And I think friends that's about it for now ... the songs from Wounded Bird will have a little rest or have I said that before..?

Cheers

ROB

ps. If you happen to be in Melbourne this Saturday night I'm supporting The Audreys at The Toff In Town.

Big thanks to you all in Sydney for a brilliant weekend. I'm still recovering. Special thanks to Ali at The Newsagency and Suzanne & Michael for hosting an acoustic house concert and their friends Robyn & Co for the magnificent backdrop they created.

One last thing... if you're up late watching RAGE on the weekend, keep a look out for the video for "Lay of the Land". I'm told we're on...

New video plus ... Sydney (this week), Melbourne, Adelaide

Thought you might be interested in seeing the first video taken from "Wounded Bird" for the song "The Lay of The Land" by the immensely talented L.J.Spruyt. Trees, landscape, picnic setting... it's all there looking rather beautiful...

SYDNEY

Don't forget I head up to Sydney in solo mode this week(!) to play two shows in the one night at The Newsagency, 375 Enmore Rd, Marrickville. You can bring your own liquor, there's a choice of either the early or late show Friday February 13. It's a tiny, tiny, tiny room with a great ambience I'm told, so I'm really, really looking forward to it.
Tickets here.

MELBOURNE

JP Shilo and I play our first ever show at The Yarra Hotel, 295 Johnston St, Abbotsford on Thursday February 19. It's a slightly formal, fully seated supper show and a nice way to wind down the week. Here's the menu... banana tart anyone..?
Tickets here.

ADELAIDE

Looking forward to heading over to Adelaide (with JP Shilo) to play in the glorious surrounds of The Garden of Unearthly Delights on Sunday March 1 in the Aurora Spiegeltent. A lovely setting for us to play the songs from Wounded Bird. I'm sneaking in to perform at another of the fringe shows there also but I want you all to come to ours ..!
Tickets here.

Finally, I've been working on a new release with Shane O'Mara... it's getting very close. It's "different"... that's all I'm saying...

End of one year... start of another

So we all got through Christmas unscathed... well hopefully... I'm trusting Christmas was good to you all. It's been pouring all day in my neck of the woods but the sun shines on the MCG. Sometimes it feels like our street gets rained on more than most.

It's been a busy year and a fruitful one musically, I've met a lot of wonderful folk around the country and played some incredible shows along the way. Thanks to all of you who turned up to the shows, pledged for bits and pieces and have bought the 'Wounded Bird' CD... or the snowdome... or tea-towel... Also for all the radio support and best of lists for 2014 I crept into... a big, big thanks.

2015 The year begins for me musically in Red Hill, down the Mornington Peninsula at a monthly musical gathering called MOTH.

Music On The Hill takes place on January 2 at The Red Hill Pavilion, tickets available here.

I'll be performing solo with special guests - Ruby Whiting and David O'Connell.

Next, I'm heading up to Sydney for an intimate private Acoustic House Concert in mid-February and slipping into a small venue called The Newsagency in Marrickville for two shows in the one night. It's a very small venue and a BYO event. There's an early show and a late show so you can take your pick. Tickets should be on sale soon..! It's on Friday February 13, hopefully I'll see you there, pencil it in the diary.

Next up will be a supper show gig with the majestic JP Shilo at glorious The Yarra Hotel on Thursday, February 19. The Yarra Hotel is on Johnston St, Abbotsford, run by Mick Thomas. Warm and friendly, a pub with a truckload of character. The food is delicious too. Try here for tickets.

Then JP and I are off to Adelaide to play at The Garden of Unearthly Delights in The Spiegeltent on Sunday, March 1 for an early evening performance - 7pm as part of The Adelaide Fringe Festival. For tickets head here... looking forward to it

Goodbye 2014, hello 2015.

Kyneton and beyond...?

What a stellar month.

Thank you friends for voting for me in the prestigious AGE Music Victoria Awards... an honour and such a brilliant surprise. Let's not get carried away though, have you all seen who's on this list... Vance Joy, Chet Faker, Dan Sultan, Mikelangelo and yours truly. Fine company to be amongst.

Nice to visit Sydney again last month and to play Camelot in Marrickville with JP for the first time. A fine night was had. I barely recognised my old neighbourhood, there seems to be venues popping up everywhere.

Other highlights included supporting Canadian alt country songstress Lindi Ortega with "Champagne" James Robertson, two shows with Toni Childs and a couple of lovely, intimate acoustic house concerts (yes, I'm still doing them, just email info@robsnarski.com if there's something you have in mind).

So I'm wondering how Major Tom's will be this Saturday (Nov 8) as I head up to Kyneton for a solo gig out in the country... it's just past Woodend. The folk there tell me tickets are limited and if you were thinking of going to get in quick. tel: 03 5422 6395 ... might see you there.

Cheers

ROB

ps. Saw a brilliant live show from those lads from Manchester ELBOW at The Forum last week. Yes it's true, that chap Guy Garvey can really sing.

A Few WBird Shows Left

A busy week.

JP Shilo and I played at The Post Office Hotel last Sunday, thanks to all who came and wandered off home with a snow dome and CD.

Nice to meet young New Zealanders Aldous Harding and Marlon Williams at The Melbourne Folk Club on Wednesday night. Their traditional, medieval tale of a boy married at 14, a father at 15 and laying in his grave at 16 was truly stunning, so beautifully sung.

The songs of the Wounded Bird will soon be coming to rest but not before a few more shows and a quick trip to SYDNEY next Friday.

FRI OCT 10 - CAMELOT LOUNGE, MARRICKVILLE (SYDNEY)
with JP SHILO
TICKETS

SUN OCT 19 - TOFF IN TOWN, MELBOURNE
supporting LINDI ORTEGA (Canada)

SAT NOV 8 - MAJOR TOM'S, KYNETON VIC

Lindi Ortega's album TIN STAR was given to me by Michael and Sandra who I met earlier in the year. They had me over to DJ at their place as well as performing a surprise acoustic house concert for their friend Ursula. TIN STAR has been on high rotation since. The Toff is her own sideshow as she tours the country with Justin Townes Earle so l look forward to seeing her in a more intimate setting.

Thanks again to 3RRR for having the WBIRD band perform live last month and album of the week.

Wounded Bird songs live

Looks like the dinner and show tickets for this Tuesday night's show at DING DONG are close to filling up... get in there quick for an authentic taste of the head chef's Cajun / Creole menu. He's from New Orleans so he must know something about crawfish and gumbo!

Having said that there's plenty of general admission tickets and possibly the last chance to see the cracking band now know as The Wounded Birds this year - Rosie Westbrook, JP Shilo, Ash Davies and Bruce Haymes playing the WB songs exquisitely.

Go here for ticket info.

Also Rob and JP Shilo head back to Sydney next month to play the Camelot Lounge in sunny Marrickville. (The suburb Rob worked as a postie in the late '80s... and consequently attacked by all manner of canines).

Tickets available here.

The snow domes have finally arrived... they're absolutely fantastic! Little Pearl said "I like them because when the snow falls it looks like he's crying".

Join Rob Snarski and his band; JP Shilo, Rosie Westbrook, Ashley Davies and Bruce Haymes, at Ding Dong Lounge’s newly opened restaurant, Girl with the Gris Gris, for a midweek dinner and show experience, and be treated to an uninterrupted show, a three-course menu, exceptional service and a true taste of the American south from the Cajun and Creole infused menu. Direct from New Orleans, Head Chef Chris Weysham has become one with local food culture since setting foot in Australia, treating Melbourne to a little taste of New Orleans hospitality by introducing Melbourne diners and music lovers to his Cajun heritage of home style, Louisiana cooking.

The Wounded Bird is doing well - thanks to you all

Apart from one dog walk with Booboo and a frittata bake I’m pretty sure I’ve completed all that was asked of me through the Pledge Campaign. If you haven’t received something please let me know.

I never thought I’d find myself singing “Oh Danny Boy” …nor did I understand its meaning until now.

There’s been some incredible song choices sent my way.

Thanks to Sydney and Melbourne friends for turning up to the launch of “Wounded Bird”…. greatly appreciated. It’s been a hoot thus far.

I’m off to WA next week with JP Shilo: Astor Lounge Sat Aug 16 ( + Catherine Traicos) and a special afternoon show (2-5pm) at Mojo's in Fremantle on Sun Aug 17 ( + Jill & Alsy).

There’s more dates in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney (new show announced in October), so keep an eye here.

Thanks to the kind folk at Basement Discs for their fabulous instore on Friday in Melbourne.

Hope you’re all enjoying the songs from "Wounded Bird".
